i detect a level anxiety due to the fact that this site is shortly to close.
i too find the familiarity of this site reassuring and i feel comfortable navigating my way around it.
as more of a 'lurker' than a 'poster', i find active topics the best feature of this site, as it means i can log in, and in 5 minutes catch up with the news of the week.
I like the active topic button and the ease of keeping up with the current flow of the board. The best feature is, of course, the posters themselves. They are what makes it tick.
I would like to see an active topics on the bottom of the page or just a back to top button. Not too patient with scrolling back up.
The moderation of this site has to be mentioned too because without it, things would go down hill fast, I'm afraid. So thanks, mods.

my wife has been studying for a short while with a sister from a local congregation whose husband happens to be the po of the congregation.
they are not presently doing a conventional bible study, they are doing a topical study, having done heaven and paradise earth, next week (when he shows up to chat with me and answer some of my questions) the topic may be either generation or michael/jesus.
in a phone conversation with the po husband, i had asked him about the last days section of the 1989 reasoning book and the statement 'the generation that was alive at the beginning of 1914 is now well along in years.
The message inside the cover of the Awake for so many years show just how strongly it was taught. I believe they have deleted it now from bound volumes or the Wat. CD.

another point that might be sort of related: when we used to call unbap pubs "approved associates", and they were dealt with judicially to the point of no longer being approved associates, the cong was to treat them essentially like they were dfed.
that's the way it was at the time i'm referring to.

Don't have the info when it changed, but I remember it. I had a friend whose daughter was considered a disapproved associate and she totally refused to have anything to do with her. As soon as they changed it, they were together constantly. The daughter hadn't changed one bit, was still into drinking and drugs, hung with some pretty rough people.
The whole episode taught me how insane shunning was. The fact that the crazies in NY say so or not, is all that matters. This mother now has 3 dfd children and won't treat them like she does the daughter that was not baptized. Bizarre behavior-can you say cult?
here is a conversation with theodore jaracz, key member of the watchtower's governing body of jehovah's witnesses, initiated by alan feuerbacher in 2001.. jaracz knew about the dateline expose' of their child abuse problem at least 8 months before dateline aired.. this confirms that the governing body knew about the dateline program expose' of watchtower child abuse problem.
of course, to be fair to jaracz, he was entirely unaware of the problems to the watchtower that would follow, including the resulting court cases, which watchtower settled out-of-court.
six years later, the time of the court settlements, jaracz was proved to be wrong on his observations as discussed in the conversation.. watchtower had knowingly appointed molestors to positions of authority, which was established in the lawsuits, so jaracz's arguments do not hold water here.

i've had this theory for some time and alluded to it occassionally but have never explored it in detail.. it is of course a huge generalisation so no, not everyone will fit into the boxes and i'd like people's opinion.
i don't know everyone's circumstances so it's based on a small sample of some of those i do know something about.
it could be completely wrong, it's just an idea.. basically, i have seen a difference between some of those ex-jws who walked out vs those who were kicked out.. the most bitter and obsessive seem to be the kicked out and, i must add, those who were legitimately kicked out.
I have had this discussion with my dub husband way too many times. I do not believe shunning is humane. You say that those who joined agreed to the rules. I joined as a very young adult and still didn't really understand all the rules. What about those born in the confusion and getting dfd just to get out?
Nor did I have a clue that many years later I would disagree with most everything they told me to believe.
I have kids that are dubs and kids out. The ones out tell me it damaged their minds in some ways. The ones that are still dubs think they will live in paradise on earth forever and will never die. Are their minds damaged?
If someone is poison and causes hurt thru pediphelia or rape, these are crimes and should be reported and the proper authorities can investigate. Then people can choose to distance themselves. No announcement is necessary. The news about people gets around.
The other moral choices we make give people a right to choose to associate with us or not. That is an individual right. Never will it be the right of an organization who claims to speak for God.

I don't know if I pray or just talk to myself a lot. Always have been an eternal seeker, just not sure what of anymore. I don't really expect answers, but just can't stop thinking of questions.
I agree it's really the pictures that make the site interesring. I think it said on the site that you can suppy the picture or they will, if you want.
